The new Blizzard Black Pearl 88 is a fantastic option for the strong intermediate to aggressive skiing women who will be making smooth turns on the groomers, skiing some powder, and zipping through the bumps. Blizzard's Women's Carbon Flipcore Construction keeps the Black Pearl 88 very energetic and stable anywhere you can go on the mountain. A Poplar-Beech Wood Core will keep you stable when you are hitting top speed, or you run into some challenging snow conditions. The Black Pearl 88 uses a Ti Binding Interface to add extra rigidity underfoot and extra retention for the binding screws. A Sandwich Compound Sidewall Construction makes the Black Pearl a favorite for the ladies who are worried about edge hold on firmer conditions. The Black Pearl 88 has been a very popular ski and a best-seller since its inception, it’s time for you to find out for yourself why this season!

I just took these out for a demo and these are a fun ski. I wasn't even looking at them and my friend skis these and told me to take them for a couple runs. I was having a blast in the corn and they performed on the hard pack as well. Bo...Read More

Q: Hi, I am an intermediate-advanced skier. Probably ski 50% blue, 50% black and an occasional double black. Primarily east coast. I am 5'3", 110 lbs. The 152s seem alittle short, and the 159s too long. What do you recommend?

Q: Hi, I am an intermediate skier, 5'5, 140lbs, skiing mainly blues but venturing sometimes into off piste. I see you recommend 159 cm for skiers similar to me. What are the pro and cons of getting longer skis 166cm?

A: Based on your weight and ability, I would recommend the 152cm for you. Having a ski too long for you would be a little more fatiguing and cumbersome when you decide to go off piste. If you ski mostly blues, the shorter size would be easier to control. I have recommended the longer size for skiers for skiers who primarily ski in Colorado. If you ski in the Midwest the shorter ski has a tighter turning radius and is easier to turn at ski areas with less vertical.

Q: Hi! I'm currently trying to decide between the 2017 Black Pearls and the 2018 88 Black Pearls. I tried the 2017 last season and loved them. Was there a significant change made to the ski that should motivate me to get the new ones? I'd love to hear from someone who has tried both. Not sure if the shorter turning radius would have a significant impact for me. I'm an advanced intermediate skier, 5'4, 150lbs and generally ski blues and blacks but want to get better at moguls and ungroomed trails. Thank you!

A: The WSD was new to the Black Pearl last season and that ski has not changed aside from graphics. The newest construction with the WSD is lighter and slightly more forgiving than the first few years the Black Pearl was produced.

Q: Looking for a size recommendation between 159 and 166. I'm 5'5", 120-125 lbs, and an intermediate skier. Spend 90% of my time on blues, and venture into trees and bumps more and more. I'm typically skiing in CO, but also spend time in UT and MN. I'm looking for a length I can do everything with, but that will help improve my abilities. What do you think?

A: Your weight suggests the 152cm, but the terrain you want to ski brings me to the 159cm. The longer ski will offer you more stability and control without being too challenging to help you improve.

Q: Looking at these for my 19 yr old daughter who desperately needs upgrade from park twin tips from 6 yrs ago. She is a racer as well so is expert and has aggressive stance and loves the speed. In looking at these for rec purposes, not sure whether the 159 or 166 is better. She is 5'4" and about 130. Her old rec skis were 152 but her GS skis are 170 so she is used to a variety of lengths. Thinking maybe the 159 wd still allow some glades fun easier then the 166?

Q: Hi, I'm 5'5", 132 lbs, intermediate skier in Utah (if snow matters). Would you recommend 159 or 166? I watched the review videos and am curious what length those ladies prefer since our stats are similar, so if you have that info it would be great as well! Thank you!

A: Based on your weight, ability and location I would recommend the 159cm for you. In our On-Snow Reviews, I believe that Jenna was skiing the 152cm, where Brigitte and Janice were skiing on the 159cm.

Q: Suggest size chart given weight, height, aggressiveness put my recommended smack dab in the middle of 159 and 166. With this particular ski, is it recommended to size up or down?

Know the answer? Answer this question

A: There is no general recommendation for this is, it comes down to personal preference. Given that you are in Tahoe where you are typically dealing with snow that has a higher moisture content, therefore a bit heavier, sizing up would normally be our recommendation. However, if your last pair of skis was in the 156-162cm range I would lean to the 159 length for consistency.
