Summer is here, and for many outdoor enthusiasts the thing they look forward to the most is outdoor music festivals. What could be better than sitting on the ground in the sunshine, drinking a beer, and listening to music? I’ll tell you what – doing all those things in a mountain town! Our team at loves summer festivals, so we’ve put together a guide to some of our favorites you’ve got to check out.

Mountain Town Music Festival – Keystone, CO

Let’s start with the most obvious one, the Mountain Town Music Festival. If you’ve been to Keystone, this festival is hosted on the River Run Village Stage. The 2017 lineup includes: Ages & Ages, Mipso, Strange Americans, and many more to be announced. Keep in mind it’s not just music you can enjoy, tons of local Colorado food and drink vendors will also be there for tastings and treats. As well as other vendors for art, trinkets, hammocks, jewelry, clothing and more. The Mountain Town Music Festival takes place on August 18th-19th, and the best part is, IT’S FREE!!

Here is another festival for all you music lovers out there! This one is located right under the majestic and often overlooked Teton Mountains. The festival itself takes place at 7,800ft (watch out for your drinking, sea level dwellers) right by Grand Targhee Village. You can choose to stay in Grand Targhee Village, or you can camp out with the rest of the hippies and enjoy 3 days of non-stop music. The headliners for this festival include: Michael Franti & Spearhead, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, Galactic, and more. There are also tons of vendors for food, drinks, art and even kid friendly activities. Targhee Fest runs from July 14th-16th 2017, and tickets go fast! The Ride Festival – Telluride, CO

Telluride Colorado
Downtown Telluride, Colorado

Telluride knows how to jam, and the Ride Festival in Telluride, Colorado does just that. This cozy and secluded mountain town offers the best possible venue for a music festival, and is surrounded by mountains on almost all sides. The main stage is the Fred Shellman Stage located in Telluride Park. The rest of the festival takes place in Mountain Village; just hop on a free gondola and ride your way up to get there. The festival itself takes place on July 8th-9th which is coming up soon, but last minute festivals are the best! As an added bonus, the Friday before there is a free sunset concert in the same location – however, you won’t want to miss the main event! The lineup for this festival is insane so let’s list more than just a couple, because I’ll admit, I’m excited about this one. They’ve got Beck, Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals, The John Butler Trio, Kaleo, The Rival Sons and many, many, more. If you’re a night owl like me who can’t get enough of the music, the Ride Festival also offers tickets for after party shows as well.

Sun Valley Summer Symphony – Sun Valley, ID

Let’s get a little classy with our next choice. The Sun Valley Summer Symphony adds a touch of class and sophistication (but not too much) to this list. Featuring orchestra music throughout the summer and well into August, with lots of dates and classical focuses available. You can choose your favorite and enjoy a night of culture in one of the most beautiful places in Idaho. There are Beethoven events, Brahms, trumpets, and everything in between. Just like the Mountain Town Festival in Keystone, this one is free throughout the whole summer! The Sun Valley Summer Symphony is the largest admission-free symphony in America and seats no less than 1,600 people. It is held at the gorgeous Sun Valley Pavilion, one of the most magnificent concert settings around. So get out there and enjoy some free classical music this summer.

Wanderlust Festivals – Various Mountain Town Locations

Let’s wrap this list off with one of the biggest mountain town festivals out there, the Wanderlust festivals. Why is “festivals” plural, you ask? Because there are 5 for the 2017 season and there are 3 already announced for the 2018 festival season. The ones being held this season are (these are in order by date, the soonest festival being listed first) Stratton Mountain, VT; Squaw Valley, CA; Whistler, BC CA; Tremblant, QC CA; Sunshine Coast, QLD AU. Depending on your taste you can take on the Wanderlust Festivals at a national level or an international level. The Wanderlust Festivals are held from June through November, and it is important to make sure you check out the dates and details. The lineup is pretty extensive and varies for each individual festival, so be sure to check which artists are coming to your chosen location. The Wanderlust Festivals are all multi-day events with artists, teachers, mentors, chefs, musicians, and more, all coming together to celebrate mindful living.
