The QST 85 from Salomon is a perfect ski for the beginner to strong intermediate skier that wants to progress their skills, and the type of terrain that they ski rapidly. An 85mm waist is very easy to shuffle around on the mountain while you are still learning, and will help give you smoother skiing when you encounter crud or variable snow conditions. Salomon's All-Terrain Rocker 2.0 Profile has a rockered tip that will engage the ski into a turn easier, keep you stable in the middle of a turn, and release you from a turn with little effort. A Power Transfer Platform uses a Titanium insert underneath the binding platform that keeps the center of the ski rigid, while the tips and tails are still forgiving and easy to manipulate into turn, while using less energy. The QST 85 uses a Semi-Sandwich Construction that has a Cap Construction in the tip and tail for easy maneuvering and forgiveness, with a sidewall underfoot that provides a grip on the snow when conditions get firm. If you are a progressing skier that wants to have a ski that will help you tackle more challenging terrain, the QST 85 is the ski for you.

Q: I'm an East Coast expert skier riding the Salomon XDrive 8.8 FS and the 2013 Mantra. I was looking for a ski that is not as demanding as the 8.8 FS and the Mantra in the moguls, and the QST 85 caught my eye. I'm a power skier, but the one area where I ski with finesse is in bumps. Would the QST 85 be a good choice for the job?

Know the answer? Answer this question

A: These skis are really not designed for a skier at your caliber and will likely under perform for you, even if you are looking for something less aggressive. A better option for you in the Salomon catalog would be the QST 92, still with a flat tail and longer radius so great in the bumps, but still has the ability to rip when you need it.
