Although I've been a cross-country skier for over 15 years, I had previously tried downhill just once, around 25 years ago. I was starting downhill on a budget and bought a pair of used Nordica skis for $25. When it came to boots, I figured it was wiser buy new. These were the least expensive boots I could find but was worried that at over 240lb the "beginner" flex might prove too soft but it turned out fine. I'm a 12.5 US shoe size and the 30.5 was a great fit. The boots remained comfortable for the 4 hours of skiing I did on this first outing. A friend had suggested I buy 4-buckle boots but I had no problems with these 3-buckle plus "power strap" and before I came off the mountain I'd established good control and transitioned to full parallel turns. They may not suit the expert but for me they were perfect!Hide
A: This binding is compatible with the Neox binding, but the Metron is a pretty stiff ski that you may notice a lack of responsiveness trying to drive it with such a soft boot. I would recommend that you look at the Rossignol Alias 90 or even 120 that has the same wide fit in the forefoot, but more power.
A: Calf volume does not have a specific measurement since that also correlates to the shell size. This boot does have one of the largest and most adjustable calf volumes out there.

Q: Are these boots unisex? My wife rented a pair of Evo 70's and found them to fit her feet well. I want to buy her a pair of boots.
A: The Evo 70 is a mens boot. The Rossignol Kiara 70 is the womens specific version. A bit shorter, and a bit wider in the cuff to better accommodate the female leg shape.
