Q: I have K2 skates with 90mm 83A ILQ9. I need replacement wheels and probably bearings as they are over 4 yrs old. I'm used to the 90s but did find they were less forgiving when hitting small rocks, sticks, etc. I usually skate paved bike paths but like I said, I avoid the debris. Also, my two front wheels are far more worn out and at an angle from aggressive push offs. I'm a bit older now and my knees are starting to hurt so I wonder if I should go to a slightly smaller, softer wheel. I'd like to keep the bearings. I do like speed. Recommendations?

A: If you go smaller than the 90mm you will have even more issues with hitting small rocks, sticks, etc as the smaller wheels will not as easily roll over debris as the larger wheels. I'd recommend going with the same size of 90mm to replace, and then you will want to rotate the wheels occasionally between skate sessions. To rotate you will want to remove the wheels and swap the 1st and 3rd wheels, and the 2nd and 4th wheels all while flipping the wheels. This will ensure a more even wear pattern in your wheels. If you don't already have one I'd also recommend a skate tool like the Rollerblade 3 in 1 tool to make the job easier. Search "tool" to take a look at these.
