The Giro Strive MIPS is an excellent race helmet for the speedster who requires an FIS Approved Helmet. The Strive features an Included Chinbar that does not require any tools to install to make it easy for you when the freeskiing opportunity presents itself and you not running gates. Giro's Hammerhead Design adds extra reinforcement in strategically placed areas where common impacts from bashing gates occur. The Strive also includes MIPS (Multi-Directional Impact Protection System) that uses a low-friction liner that can rotate inside the outer shell to absorb impact from a nasty crash. An X-Static Anti-Microbial Padding inside the EPP Liner prevents your race helmet from getting smelly and funky after day-in and day-out training. If you are looking for a fresh new look on the race course and added protection for the confidence to push yourself to the top of the podium, the new Giro Strive MIPS is the helmet for you.
Q: My son's (14 years old) head is wide (ear to ear) relative to its depth (front to back). Finding helmets that fit him has been a real challenge since he was a little kid playing hockey. The only helmets that fit him properly are the ones that adjust at the back to pull in the rear bottom (because they make the helmet smaller front to back, which allows him to get one that is big enough side to side). One-piece racing helmets either are painfully tight on his temples or leave too much open space at his forehead and back of his head. He races (ski cross) in Pennsylvania and we've visited countless shops in Maryland, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania looking for an FIS certified helmet that fits him. We also looked in a few shops earlier this season when we were in Aspen. We even had several helmets made by manufacturers that aren't carried by our local shops shipped to us. Every racing helmet that he could get over his head side to side would provide no actual protection because there was too much space front to back. So, he skied last and this season with a high-end, but not FIS certified, adjustable Giro helmet. He's about to start racing in FIS sponsored events and so needs an FIS certified helmet. Any suggestions? Does anyone make a custom helmet? Can you add pads to the front and back to fill the empty space?
A: At this time we don't know of any FIS hard shell helmets that offer adjustment. Your best bet would be to find a shop and attempt to try on more models and see if anyone can help customize the fit for your son.

Q: Can you install a Giro slalom chin guard ? It appears to only have one hole.
