Hi I'm Brendan I just got off the Elan Wingman 86 TI. This ski is an absolutely amazing ski. Super easy to ski but has tons of energy, loves to go fast in big wide open turns. You can make tight turns on it but it just loves those big open lay down groomers. Really gonna be a great ski for your intermediate to your advanced or expert level skier who just really wants to have a great time just crushing groomers. The metal in it's super damp it can push through snow piles, so really just an awesome carving groomer ski.Hide

Hi I'm Thom I just got done riding the Elan wingman 86 TI. A brand new ski for this year and this thing is a blast. it's really geared towards your intermediate through Advanced Level skier but this thing just has a monstrous sweet spot. Full side wall with the Wingman titanal in there so the things damp stable tons of power on edge but you don't really have to work to get it there which is what makes this thing kind of magic. It's really cool blend of power and predictability and just overall easy use. I'd really recommend this for anybody that's looking for a versatile frontside ski from a really athletic beginner maybe a hockey background and rent it a few times all the way for a solid advanced skier that's just looking for a nice casual ski.Hide
Q: I would consider myself a strong intermediate. I learned to ski in the NW, but recently moved to North Carolina. I went skiing at a few resorts and quickly found that my skis simply wont work. I have a pair Rossi Scatch Bcs 98s and Elan Ripstick 120s. Snowshoe WV is going to be my home mountain and snow conditions aren't great. I would like a pair of skis just for out east. I don't need a "one ski quiver", just something that can handle all the crud and bumps out here. From what I can tell, there are no off piste opportunities here. I was looking at the Elan Wingman 86s, Rossi Experience 88s, Nordica Enforcer 88s, and Brahma 88s. Any recommendations? Should I be looking for something more narrow since I already have powder skis?
A: Sounds like the Brahma 88 from Blizzard might do the trick for you. You'll be able to get the ski up on edge easier due the narrower underfoot. Metal in the core for a lot of rigidity and grip on icier snow and groomed runs. Great on pumps and generally good in the crud too. This is a true beast for the east.

Q: How would these skis best compare to the the Ripstick 88s? Im looking for skis that I can spend 80-90% of my time on piste and dabble a bit off piste every now and then. Im a bigger skier (6'2 / 225) but prefer to cruise around most of the time and want something light that I can ski all day without having to power through all day and just have fun with on piste mainly. Im having a bit of trouble finding the big differences between the two skis - the Wingman seem definitely more piste oriented while Ive heard some say the Ripstick 88s are for powder mainly while others say there 80/20 piste oriented. Thanks for your help!
A: Great question. I would consider the Wingman 86 Ti a little stiffer and more suited for carving rather than the more freeride oriented Ripstick 88. The stiffer, more piste oriented Wingman is quick into turns without feeling like you are being overpowered. I also feel that the Wingman has a stronger edge hold when conditions get a little icy.
