Descente Passport Series Complete With Ski Trips

By. Julie Kehoe

Descente has been a well know high end ski wear manufacturer for years.  Their jackets have been worn at exclusive resorts across the country for years, and now you have a chance to ski some of those places while Descente foots the bill.  Descente releases a few models of men’s and ladies’ jackets each year in their Passport series which come with a passport for free lift passes to several ski resorts across the United States and Canada.  This year the pass includes 43 available lift tickets to resorts such as A-Basin, Jay Peak, Mt. Hood Meadows, Banff @ Norquay, The Canyons, and Sunday River.

Depending on where you live or how much you end up traveling to ski each year these jackets can more than pay for themselves in lift tickets and ski trip memories.  A few adventures we suggest you look into are:

Three Colorado Resorts; A-Basin, Copper, and Winter Park are all involved with the Descente Passport System.  A-Basin and Copper are located rather close to each other, so if your taking a trip to one or the other it’s definitely worth hopping in the rental car and taking a day trip over to the other.  If you are feeling like a drive you can head up to Winter Park for a day trip as well.  According to mapquest it should take about an hour and 15 minutes to get from A-Basin up to Winter Park.  In total you would end up scoring $233 worth of free lift tickets.

I would suggest staying in Park City, You can ski the Park City Mountain Resort there but it is not on the pass.  However from Park City it is a short 10 minute drive to The Canyons.  Park City is also between Powder Mountain and Sundance Ski Resort.  The three lift tickets are valued at $191 and you can tell all of your friends about skiing at three great resorts for free, but you don’t have to mention the free part.

While this trip probably isn’t practical to most people, the die hard ski bums will definitely enjoy this road tripping extravaganza.  With this one, I would highly suggest staying in the cheapest road side motels possible or your van as gas per liter is pricy and you’re going to be burning though a lot of it to get to all of these resorts.  There are really two ways to do this but they start out the same.

Fly into Vancouver and rent a car.  For the first day skiing for the trip drive to North Vancouver and ski at Grouse Mountain to get your ski legs under you.  From here you need to make a decision do you (A)ski Banff and fly home from Calgary or (B)skip it and loop back around to fly home from Vancouver?

Trip A:

After skiing all day at Grouse Mountain, hop in the car and drive all evening to Kelowna.  Stop at Big White Resort in Kelowna for the second skiing day of this trip.  From there head east on 97 toward Silver Star Mountain where you should spend the third day skiing.  Revelstoke is not on the pass but since you are already driving across British Columbia it would be stupid to pass up such epic skiing, ski Day 4 at Revelstoke.  Proceed east to Golden, British Columbia to ski day five at Kicking Horse.  You will cross into Alberta and then decide if you would like to stop at Lake Louise or not since it’s not on the pass.  On the way into Calgary ski one day at Banff@ Norquay and one day at Canada Olympic Park courtesy of Descente.  Canada Olympic Park is about 10 miles out side of Calgary, so depending on your flight schedule and how smelly you might be by the end of this trip you could catch a late flight out of Calgary to avoid staying over another night.  This trip is defiantly the shorter distance of the two British Columbian adventures being about 680 miles but its well worth it to get to ski these great resorts on someone else’s dime.  The free lift tickets you can score on this trip are valued at $373 Canadian.

Trip B:

After skiing all day hop in the car and drive all evening to Sun Peaks Resort, which should take 4.5 to 5 hours.  In the morning ski Sun Peaks.  From there, drive 5 hours through Revelstoke to Kicking Horse in Golden, BC to ski there on day 3 of this adventure.  Revelstoke is not on the pass but since you are already driving all over British Columbia it would be stupid to pass up such epic skiing, ski Day 4 at Revelstoke on the way back to Vancouver.  For the fifth day of this adventure ski in Silver Star at Silver Star Mountain.  To round out this ski adventure, use your last free pass at Big White in Kelowna.  For this trip buying a Descente Passport Jacket will save you $343 Canadian in lift tickets.  Round trip this will take you over 1000 miles in the car, but it’s definitely worth it for the stories, face shots, cliff drops and memories.

There are plenty of resorts on the pass that aren’t covered in this blog, so check them out for yourself. The Passport jackets available on will have a link to the passport details with the full list of resorts. The jackets in these collections start at about $275 for men and women, so depending on how much you get out to use the Passport you could easily end up with a free jacket by the end of the year.
