The Volkl Flair 81 is an awesome ride for expert skiing women who are demanding power and precision out of their carving ski. Volkl's 3D Ridge Technology has a highly maneuverable and powerful feeling by having a thin construction over the sidewalls of the ski, and a thicker construction in the center of the ski that lowers the amount of inertia it takes to steer the ski. 3D Ride Technology also creates very precise pressure distribution on the edges of your skis, making the Flair 81 a favorite for East Coast ripping women. The Tip and Tail Rocker has a highly maneuverable feel to it, while camber underfoot provides a high amount of rebound and grip. The Light Sensor Wood Core has a layer of Carbon to keep the weight down, and a very powerful feel. If you are one of those gals that flies down the mountain, without waiting for the rest of the group, or no one can keep up with you, the Volkl Flair 81 is the ski for you.

I just took these out for a demo and while they were great in the corn, they just didn't track so well on the hard pack. Granted, the hard pack was mostly solid ice, but still, I was underwhelmed. I wanted to like them as so many people r...Read More

Hey Jess here, and I just got off the Volkl Flair 81's. I would give this ski a 5 out of 5 stars. It's an advanced to expert level ski, and it's a true groomer ripping ski. You could definitely take this thing all-mountain, but it's really ...Read More

Q: is this ski a bit like the old 5 stars?
Asked : Oct 09, 2016

Know the answer? Answer this question

A:This ski is designed for the same type of skier on the same type of terrain (fast, technically proficient, and the groomers) as the older Attiva 5 Star. The new 3D Ridge Technology, addition of carbon, and the rocker profile make it much quicker edge to edge, responsive, and more maneuverable than the 5 Star.

Q: I am 5'7" and 140 lbs. and intermediate/advanced skier. I am trying to decide between the 156 or 163 length. I have Racetigers (155), Atomic skis (157) Atomic skis (158), Yumi skis (161) and another pair of 163 skis. I do not like the lengths 161 and 163. Because the Flair is tip and tail rockers, do I have to go to the 163 length? I love short carving turns and ski quite fast, they say.

Know the answer? Answer this question

A:Based on your weight, ability, and the location that you are asking this question I would recommend the 156cm. The rocker in the Flair 81 is not very substantial, so it will not feel too short, and the stiffness of the ski will compensate for any stability you need. This would be a nice ski for your short carving turns on the groomers to add to your large quiver.
