I need your advice on purchasing skis and poles.
I am an athletic 57 yo man
45 min of cardio almost everyday and weight trainig afterwards
196 lbs, 5 feet 11 inches
I am and advanced intermediate skier. Prefer groomed terrain, but adventure anywhere. Prefer goor conditions.
Do not like much powder.
probably 175 lengh?
with integrated bindings
Claude- If you are looking for a solid 70% on trail, 30% off trail integrated ski that will allow you to lay down some nice turns on the groomers, then you might want to check out the Salomon X-Wing Storm Skies with Z10 Smartrack bindings. This is an excellent ski that will feel stable and will take on soft snow and crud when the conditions maybe aren’t that nice. Below is a link to the ski on our website. For someone your size and ability, a length of around 175cm will be perfect. In regards to poles, any adult pole with a length of 50 inches, or 125 centimeters, will be good for someone of your height.
Looking to see what you’d recommend for a 6′, 155-160 lb man, pretty advanced skier looking for twin-tip, all mountain ski. Currently ski K2 Apache Recon 174 that weigh a ton. Seem to work ok, but looking for a set of twin-tipped skis.
Ski Pennsylvania, so there’s occasional (rare) powder, mostly groomed, hard-pack, ice, so ski needs to be quite versatile as I’m now being dragged into park and moguls by son. Like getting some air (possibly even some tricks), skiing switch and try some rails, but still need to handle the long groomers for a break and end of day as the knees aren’t what they used to be.
Need advice on twin tip skis
17 yr male
180 lb 5 feet 11
Expert skier
Ski all terrain
Really like to ski moguls and powder
Want to be able to ski the park also
I also like racing
Price around $400
We apologize for the timeliness of this reply, we look forward to answering your question and helping you in your decision. Our recommendations come from your size, style of skiing and conditions where you will be skiing. You’ll want to go a couple cm’s longer than your current skis as twin tips have less effective edge than a conventional all-mountain ski (tails are turned up more). Some recommendations would be:
1.) Salomon Lord in 177cm – Better at all-mountain and groomers and will handle the park ok
You can get a better feel for the skis by watching the video reviews; the top two are reviewed on our site. Hopefully this will help narrow down your search. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
It looks like you want to do a lot with your skis and we will be happy to help you find a pair to fit your specific style. Given your weight, height and skiing type we would put you in a size 170-175 for a twin tip ski. To keep it more versatile and to be able to ski more terrain I will suggest twins with a bit of a narrower waist. There are two that caught my attention for you the Dynastar 6th sense Distorter in a 173cm and the Line Chronic in a 171cm.
