Every true skier or snowboarder knows the feeling. You’re out on the hill for your first run and you begin to pick up speed. The wind rushes by your face as you lean into the first turn, creating a wave of fresh powder that cascades across the snow. Your heart beats faster as your adrenaline takes over and pushes you faster down the hill. You feel so free, so alive; this is as close to truly flying as you will ever get. What can possibly make this experience any better? How about the perfect playlist of music on your mp3 player?

If you're like many of us here at Skis.com, you enjoy listening to music regardless of what you're doing. Perhaps you believe that your life should be more like the movies, with theme music playing at all times. If there isn't any appropriate background music, maybe you make some up and sing aloud, careless of who might be listening. If so, and even if not, there isn't any reason with today's technologies that you can't take your favorite music to the slopes with you. There are many options available to both skiers and snowboarders today that allow you load your favorite tunes onto your mp3 player, plug in your headphones, and set off down the mountain. The real question is, how do you create the perfect playlist? Below we have outlined a few simple steps you can take to compile your perfect musical playlist for the slopes.

Picking Music that Enhances Your Experience

For starters, every one has their own personal taste when it comes to music and this is true even while ripping down the mountain. Many people like something that will relax them and make the whole experience more enjoyable, while others crave something that will just make them want to punch someone in the face and then bomb the next run. That being said, the first key to building the perfect playlist is deciding what kind of music really enhances your skiing or snowboarding experience. Do you want to be relaxed? Punch someone in the face? A mix between the two? Only you know the answer to this question.

Selecting Genres

Once you've picked your style, try to decide on a genre (or two or three) that fit your snow riding mood. This will help immensely when browsing through your music library. We advise you to narrow it down because, if you're anything like us, you've got thousands of songs to select from, and there's no sense in spending all of your time sifting through each one.

Pick What Gets You Going

Once you have decided on some genres, simply browse through your musical selection and pick out the songs that really get you going. Pick a song and close your eyes; try to visualize yourself gliding down the slopes, and imagine how you would feel with that song playing. It might sound a bit lame, but give it a shot and see if it works.

Trial and Error

Creating the perfect playlist isn't rocket science, but it make take a few test runs to get your playlist perfected. If so, don't worry because playlists are the easiest things to fix in the skiing industry.
