The Volkl RTM 81 is a fantastic ski for the strong intermediate to expert skier looking for stability and great carving ability on the frontside of the mountain. Powered by Steel; the RTM 81 is very smooth and chatter free at high speed. Volkl's 3D Ridge Technology uses a raised construction over the center of the ski and a very thin sidewall that creates very precise edge pressure distribution, a lower amount of inertia required to steer the ski, and a very high amount of maneuverability to slice the ski into any turn shape you want. Tip and Tail Rocker with Camber underfoot delivers rebound, and lightning quick turns as you fly down the groomers.

Hey I'm Paulie and I just skied the Volkl RTM 81. I give this ski a 5 out of 5 star rating. At 81mm underfoot this is a terrific front side ski, it makes short to medium turns just unbelievably well. Super stable, it's probably one of my favorite skis of the test. You can really do it all on this ski, you can ski bumps if you like to do that, if you get out west you could even ski some crud if you want, if its not too radical. Again 5 out of 5 stars this ski is totally bad-ass.

Hi I'm Brooks, I just got off the Volkl RTM 81. 5 out of 5 stars, this ski is awesome. It holds a great edge, really powerful ski, lots of response to it, lots of spring. Little stiff so you've got to work it a little bit more, but it's a great ski 5 out of 5 stars.

Hi I'm Adam and I was just skiing on the Volkl RTM 81. I give this ski 5 out of 5 stars. 81mm at the waist and it has a very nice rocker profile that makes it extremely easy just to drive that edge into the snow. Volkl's 3D Ridge Technology really makes this ski very light, but just loaded with power and loaded with edge grip and extremely easy to maneuver, 5 out of 5.

Hi I'm Thom, I just got off the Volkl RTM 81. This is a 5 out of 5 star ski for me. This thing is just tremendous fun. Its definitely geared toward your high-level athletic intermediate, up through expert level skier. But for that type of skier, somebody who wants an on trail just ripping, carving ski this is absolutely it. This thing goes up on to edge like a dream, and just rails the turn. Tons of energy, tons of pop to finish the turn. Really anything from long to short radius, this thing is very capable of. And very energetic the entire time. So if you're looking for front side performance, something that is just going to eat up groomers all day, this is a fantastic choice. 5 out of 5.

Hi I'm Steve I just got off the Volkl RTM 81. I give this 4.5 out of 5 stars. This is a great carving ski, hard charging, very stable, perfect on hard icy conditions. Volkl is known for making stiff skis, this ski has a small sweet spot, so it's not a super forgiving ski so you need to be a good skier. But if you are, and you can find the sweet spot on this ski it really holds edge nice. Transition from turn to turn is extremely smooth. It comes out of the turn excellerating and hard charging ready for the next turn it's a great ski for hard pack conditions. 4.5 out of 5.

Great all around ski
Comments:
Have skied on Volkl's for 20 years. The RTM 81s purchased this year replaced AX3s. Can't express how much I love these skis. It only got better as the season went on. Have so much more control. Skied groomed and fresh powder with great response.

Great skis but not what it is advertised
Comments:
First, I am a Volkl fan, has been skiing Volkls for many years, and have a great respect toward the brand. I bought RTM 81 as a replacement of Supersport 5-star because it looked like the closest choice according to the reviews I read. I am writing this review to help others avoid the mistake I made. RTM 81 are very good skis but the following was unexpected for me.
RTM 81 is intermediate not advanced-to-expert as advertised. Soft, very forgiving, effortless drive.
RTM 81 does not hold on hardpack or ice which we have here in New England all the time. I guess because it is a tip&tail rocker, sometimes it slides side-wise in the tip in simple conditions even before you put a pressure on them going into a turn. I am used to camber skis, if you ride camber skis correctly but the pressure is too high for them to hold on firm surface, then the entire ski slides. My impression is that RTM 81 may like to be ridden in the back seat.

That said, RTM 81 feels real good on soft snow and on wet snow. They plow through piles of snow on ungroomed surface well.

A:The RTM 81 is essentially the replacement for the AC-30. The flex is very comparable, but with the addition of the rocker and the 3D Ridge Technology it is much more maneuverable and quicker to turn.
