Vail | Pretty Smart
By Steve Kopitz
2 weeks ago I picked up my Epic ski pass. This is a relatively new season pass offered by Vail Resorts that for $599 allows you unlimited skiing at A-Basin, Keystone, Breckenridge, Vail, Beaver Creek, and Heavenly Valley. Unfortunately this pass is no longer available for this season but I would assume Vail will offer it again next year. With lift tickets costing as much as $90 a day it pays for it self in no time. I think Vail was brilliant to open this pass up to anyone, all you had to do was order it online by November 15th then pick it up the next time you visit any of the resorts (except A-Basin).
Sure Vail may be giving up a few hundred dollars in lift ticket revenues but they will more than make up for it with the additional lodging and restaurant revenues. A one week trip pretty much pays for the pass, then if you plan to come out to ski again it would be basically free lift tickets. That makes it pretty hard to book a trip to somewhere else. In this time of skiing (particularly lift ticket) getting more and more expensive it’s great to see someone offering a real value out there. My compliments to Vail for offering a program that’s good for us skiers and good for them too.
