The Salomon Q-85 is a great ski for the intermediate to advanced skier that is looking for a snappy lively ski that will be mostly skiing on the trail, but wants some off trail capabilities. The Full Wood Core has a very lively feel that can make medium to long radius turns at a variety of speeds that will be fairly stable when you start to top it out. The Semi Sandwich Construction has a cap construction in the tips and tails for forgiveness, while a sidewall underfoot delivers strong edge hold. The Hook Free Taper of the Q-85 makes the ski way more maneuverable in the ungroomed terrain, by not letting your tips get caught up in the different snow. Salomon's Utility Rocker has a rockered tip to keep you on top of the snow, engage you into your turns more efficiently, and absorb negative vibrations that can be caused by variable snow. If you are looking for a ski that can slice down the groomers, and help you improve your skiing off trail the Salomon Q-85 will be a great ski for you.

2015 Salomon Q-85 Ski Review by Jeff S.
Comments:
Hey, this is Jeff. I just got finished skiing the Salomon Q 85. I give this ski a 4.5 out of 5. Lots of fun. Wood core but really snappy, really lively, really solid underfoot. Very easy to make really quick turns but wide enough that you can take it through some transitional snow or even some fresh powder if you got it. Would be great in the bumps. Really enjoyed this ski so 4.5 out of 5 for the Salomon Q 85.

2015 Salomon Q-85 Ski Review by Steve N.
Comments:
Hey, I'm Steve. I just got off the Salomon Q 85. This is a solid ski. 4 out of 5 stars. See you riding in powder, having a blast. Frontside groomers, popping in and out of trees. Solid short radius and long radius turns. Again, the Q 85. 4 out of 5 stars.

2015 Salomon Q-85 Ski Review by Hans
Comments:
Hi, this is Hans. I just came off the Salomon Quest 85. If you're an intermediate skier, you try to venture out a little bit, get your first little bit wider ski, this would be a great ski for you. It's that transition ski to a wider, powder ski or all-mountain ski. I give this ski 4 out of 5. But again, it's for an intermediate ski. Anybody heavy on this ski will probably twitch a little bit. Real nice all-mountain ski.

2015 Salomon Q-85 Ski Review by Ryan
Comments:
Hi, I'm Ryan. I just got off the Salomon Quest 85. I give this ski a 4 out of 5 star rating. The big thing with this ski, it's really quick edge changes. The lightweight of this ski makes it really easy to move around. A good great carving ski if you're looking for an all-mountain ski that will bust through crud and allow you to get off the groomers every once in a while.

2015 Salomon Q-85 Ski Review by Adam
Comments:
I'm Adam and I was just skiing on the Salomon Quest 85. I give this ski 4 out of 5 stars. It makes a great ski for the intermediate to advanced skier who's looking to get into some more variable terrain, venture into some off-piste. 85 at the waist is still very maneuverable and quick to turn and carve but with its rocker profile construction, it's very, very lively especially if you want a quicker turning ski into unbroken snow. 4 out of 5.

2015 Salomon Q-85 Ski Review by Mike B.
Comments:
Hey, I'm Mike. I just got done skiing the Salomon Q 85. I'm going to give this ski a 4 out of 5 stars. It's got a unique tip shape so it's going to start to float above the powder a little bit if you get into it but it's still a very versatile ski. It excels well in just about all conditions. Every turn shape it will make with ease. It's very stable, very forgiving. A very fun ski so if you're an intermediate all the way up through an advanced level skier, I think this would be a good ski for you. Again, the Q 85 from Salomon. 4 out of 5.

2015 Salomon Q-85 Ski Review by Kevin
Comments:
Hi, I'm Kevin. I just got off the brand new Salomon Q 85. I give this ski 4.5 out of 5 stars. Really good solid ski for that progressing intermediate or advanced skier on a budget that skiing mostly frontside probably 80% of the time but does want to venture off-trail or into the trees a little bit here and there. Really quick, responsive, turn initiation. Solid through the middle of the turn with this vertical sidewall under the foot and a lot of pop. I was able to get a lot of edging relation out of this ski so it was a really fun frontside all-mountain ski.

First set of skis now a Salomon fan
Comments:
This was the first set of skis I've ever owned after years of renting. Also the first for a camber with rocker profile. I have absolutely zero regret buying the Q85. I've already taken these over variable terrain and different conditions. Ice patches and groomers it really latches on and gets you through the turns. It was my first time on powder and it floated just fine. Obviously less than its wider sisters, but it's perfect for those who want to explore more. As an intermediate, the rocker tip and tail was forgiving for turns and helped improve my skiing. Salomon should be proud of this one. They now have a life time fan because of it.

Q: There is one pair of these at quite gopd price (130 dollars incl. STH 10 bindinga and mounting) at local store, length 181cm. I'm 5'10" and 195 lbs, advancing intermediate looking for first skis for exploring off-trail. Already have piste skis. Would that length be good for me, or even somewhat good because price is very tempting and these seemed quite forgiving what would help in bit softer conditions.

Know the answer? Answer this question

A:The 181cm would be the correct size for your weight and ability. I would recommend a bit stiffer of a ski for your weight.
