Comments:
I've been skating for a while on a pair of Twister 80s and really loved them -- so I was pretty wary of replacing them and pretty sure that nothing else could measure up. When I put these on, though, they felt really solid, and really comfortable too. Took them out for a test drive and found that, as I had hoped, they were a bit smoother of a ride and also slightly faster and the wheels have better grip. The wheel size (84mm) is not much bigger than my last pair (80mm), so turning ability is only slightly impacted.

My only complaint with these is the same that I had with the last pair -- the plastic brake apparatus. I'm skating in the street and am not yet comfortable with removing the heel brake as there are a couple of hills with intersections at the bottom where I really need that brake. I wore through a couple of brake pads on my Twister 80s and found that when I went to replace the brake, the plastic inside the brake assembly was routed from the screw and I had to go to the hardware store to buy a wider screw just to get the brake pad to tighten down. It looks like the Maxxum 84 has the same plastic brake assembly, so I guess I will start testing how many rounds of screws of increasing size I can use before I need a whole new brake assembly.

Other than that -- these are really great skates! Do plan to buy a size up from your shoe size, though.

Q: Do you offer any type of ratcheting lace system, like the older roller blades used ?

Know the answer? Answer this question

A: Rollerblade currently doesn't use a ratcheting closure on any of their skates. The Rollerblade Maxxum 84 does feature a ratcheting center and top strap which do a stellar job to tighten the skates, but the lacing is a standard tie lace.

Q: Two questions. can I put a 90mm wheel on these? Is there a custom fit liner I could buy to put in these and make them more comfortable?

Know the answer? Answer this question

A: The maximum wheel size of the Maxxum 84 is 84mm so you won't be able to go up to 90mm. If it's 90mm or bust I would recommend the Maxxum 90's, these are only available in men's sizing so you'll want to size down accordingly probably one full size. I skate with the maxxums and the liner is removable but there are not many liners being made for replacement in the fitness/recreational market. You can find many companies making aggressive skate liners but these would most likely be too large to fit into this skate's shell. The Maxxum liner is very comfortable and offers great support; an easy way to improve on it would be to add a custom footbed to the skates. This is something I always try to do in my skates and it can help tremendously.
