If you’ve been paying attention to the world of snowboarding lately, then you’ve probably already heard about Burton’s Power to the Poachers contest.
The hope is to drum up sympathy to the cause of opening the last few holdout resorts to snowboarders – as well as to gain plenty of publicity for their own brand. Burton promises to pay $5,000 to the person or crew who submits the best videos of their poaching experiences at one of four skiers only resorts: Deer Valley and Snowbird in Utah, Taos in New Mexico, and Mad River Glen in Vermont. If you recall from a previous blog posted, Taos has already agreed to open up to snowboarding by the end of the season, so picking on them seems a bit unfair. The rest of the resorts, though, are certainly fair game for exposure.
The season is still young, so folks with a decent video camera and a halfway decent plan should pay attention – there’s some money to be made here. Burton has yet to post any videos on their site, so get out there and start filming! The winner could be you!
