Bonus Ski Deal Tips

Finding Cheap lift tickets

a. Craigslist is a great place to pick up lift tickets.  A lot of people have leftover days or even whole ticket packages that they do not use. Many times you can save between 20 and 50% of day tickets

b. Look for ticket packs. Many resorts will sell bulk ticket packs (4 or 8 packs) at a heavily discounted rate. However, many times these are only available to purchase earlier in the season, even though the tickets are good all season long. So if you know you will be skiing some time later in the year, check around November –December for bulk ticket discounts.

c. Some season passes come with additional ticket purchase discounts (The Vail Epic Pass is a perfect example of this). So if you are going out to ski with a buddy who has a season pass, see if by showing the ticket counter your friends pass, you can receive discounted day tickets

Discount lodging

a. The BEST way to get good discount lodging is through (Vacation Rental By Owner) if you are looking for condos or houses. The listings on VRBO are local individuals who offer their houses up for rentals. Often they are professionally managed, maintained, and cleaned, but are simply not listed through an agency. This can save you literally hundreds of dollars a night, especially if you want a last minute deal. They are almost ALWAYS willing to negotiate as well.

b. Priceline’s name your own price is another great way to get good deals. Ski towns are usually pretty small, so chances are no matter where you end up, you probably won’t be too far from the hill. So naming your own price can often be a great way to some money on hotel rooms.

Saving money on the hill

a. If you are driving to the hill, Car Pool. Not only does this save on gas (which can get pricey if you are driving through the mountains), but it save a lot in parking. A lot of resorts are beginning to charge up to $30 a day for parking. So put 4 more people in the car and save yourself $25

b. If you don’t have anybody who wants to go skiing with you to car pool, check This site puts together groups of people who like to do the same types of activities. Find your local skiing or snowboarding meet up group, and send out a message asking if anyone wants to carpool for the weekend. You should have no problem finding 3 or 4 people to join, and you get to meet some other skiers!

c. Pack a lunch. Lunch prices on the mountain make eating at a 5 star restaurant look cheap. You can’t get lunch in Summit County on the hill for less than $10, usually it's closer to 15-20. If you are skiing with your family, than it can be $50 to $80 (not including hot coco breaks). You can probably pack a lunch for closer to $5 a head
