C.R. Johnson Passes Away In Tragic Skiing Accident
By Chris Gorski
C.R. Johnson who is a household name in skiing was making a comeback from an accident that had put him in a 10 day coma five years earlier. C.R. had been making steady steps in relinquishing his skiing career including an x-games medal, a third place finish in the Red Bull Linecatcher event, his own ski from 4FRNT among many great video spots among the years. There was a buzz amongst the skiing community that C.R. was indefinitely making his comeback to a sport that had never forgotten about him and one that he never let leave his side.
C.R. Johnson was skiing his childhood ski resort Squaw Valley at the time of his unfortunate accident. C.R. was skiing the steep and rocky terrain of the Light Towers area at Squaw Valley when he fell face first on some rocks also hitting the back of his head, Johnson was wearing a helmet at the time. Although the line that C.R. was skiing was a difficult line it is being stated that this incident was a “freak accident”, an accident that was unfortunate and un-timely for C.R. Johnson.
Our thoughts are with the family of Johnson and for all those in the ski community as we truly mourn the loss of a dedicated skier, one who was pushing boundaries and showing a truly exhilarating comeback into a sport that missed him so much.
