As I was playing around on the Burton snowboard site I stumbled upon their Chill Program, which is very cool if you have never checked it out. The founders of Burton, Jake and Donna, started the Chill program in 1995 in Burlington Vermont. The idea behind Chill is to provide great and positive experiences through snowboarding for undeserved youth who would not have a chance without this opportunity. Each and every year Burton takes 100 youth from each of their sites out to the slopes and provide them with all the gear they need to have a great time. Burton also provides the lift tickets, transportation and lessons. Burton is teaching these young will be snowboarders great lessons for the hill but also important life lessons such as patience, persistence, responsibility, courage, respect and pride.
Burton is taking steps in the right direction and using the power of snowboarding to do some great things in this world. Snowboarding or any sporting activity can help keep kids off the street by offering an escape from the perils of everyday living and giving an outlet for creativity and emotion. Burton Chill has positively impacted over 14,000 undeserved youth, give em some love here on their facebook page.
