2014 Salomon Quest Access 70 Womens Boot Overview
Hi, welcome to Ski Talk. I'm Steve. I'm Ski-E-O here at skis.com and today I have Rick who is our 20 year old Salomon rep. You look a little older than twenty years. Twenty years with Salomon. I wish I was 20 years old. Okay. Got it. Okay. And I've got in my hands the Salomon Quest 70 for women.
So the Quest women's...the Quest Axis 70. The Quest series for women is a 50, 60 and 70 so this is the upper end of the Axis line, right? Yep. Which is sort of the intermediate line for women, correct? So, let's talk about this boot. It's got a lot of nice upgrades over the 50 and 60 so tell us a little bit about the different features that you get on the 70. Three buckle design. Super lightweight. Very convenient by eliminating that 4th buckle. You've got all micro-adjustablility so if you get in between the 2 buckles you can simply dial in that fit just like a screw - lefty loosey, righty tighty. Yep. You've got a ratchet adjustment on the upper cuff so you can accommodate that athletic calf muscle and probably one of the greatest features on the boot is the walk/ski mode or the walk/hike mode. Super simple to use, you just click this up, disengages the upper cuff so it allows it to stand up a little more upright. Perfect for going to the bar then, right? Going to the bar, dancing all night or maybe a little more important: walking from the car up the lodge. Right. You hit that long lift line at Christmas time you can stand in a more upright or more relaxed position and then when you're ready ski, it's no real trick to get it back into ski mode. Just click this down, you go to flex for the first turn, locks it back in. Yeah. I think it's a great feature.
Yeah. So, let's talk about the fit and feel of this boot. So it's a little wider fit, a little more luxurious feel, right? Couple things we've done. One - given you a 104mm last. That doesn't really mean anything to a lot of people. What that does mean is it's a super-forgiving, easy fit. It's going to be a little wider or I like to call this the beach cruiser of ski boots. More built for comfort and cush. We use a wool metal liner on it so we're not actually putting metal in the liner but we're using a reflective material so it helps to reflect more heat or more body heat back to the foot giving it more comfort. On all of our women's boots, extra insulation in the toe box. Unfortunately mother nature wasn't nice to the ladies and they don't have quite as warm feet as we do. And then using the faux fur to just give it a little bit nicer, cushier, easier fit. Okay. All right. Now this boot has the cuff adjustment which the two lower models don't have, correct? Correct. It just allows you to align the upper cuff to your lower leg.
Okay. And I think it's a great looking boot. It's got that clear, I don't know if you can see this on the camera, but the shell is clear and you can see the liner underneath so it looks like a much more expensive boot than it costs. Yeah. I mean, nobody likes to look like a beginner and we've really tried to upgrade all of the boots this season to give them a much richer look. Okay, great. So, there you have it. That's the Quest Axis 70 for women. I'm Steve and thanks for joining us on Ski Talk today. Thanks.
